What recent guests emphasize

Balanced value and practicality with friendly service

Visitors appreciate the clean, comfortable rooms and helpful staff at an affordable price. Practical drawbacks mostly relate to limited amenities and occasional neighborhood concerns, making it suitable for simple stays rather than luxury experiences.

Guests often praise

  • Friendly, helpful, and professional front desk staff who enhance the stay experience.
  • Clean, comfortable rooms with decent beds that provide a good night's rest.
  • Affordable pricing offering practical accommodations for budget-conscious travelers.
  • Complimentary continental breakfast with a good variety including a waffle station and fresh options.
  • Convenient free parking and reliable Wi-Fi for a modest hotel.

Worth knowing

  • Breakfast service staff have received mixed feedback regarding attitude and social interaction.
  • Amenities such as a microwave, elevator, and fitness center are not available; guests should pack lightly for upper floors.
  • Some lighting issues in rooms and basic bathroom fixtures were noted by guests.
  • The surrounding neighborhood may feel sketchy or quiet with low foot traffic according to some visitors.
  • COVID-related changes have reduced hot breakfast options on occasion, replaced by brown bag meals.

Best for

  • Travelers seeking budget-friendly, no-frills accommodations in the Thunder Bay area.
  • Visitors wanting easy access to nearby shopping centers and cultural sites like the Thunder Bay Art Gallery.
  • Guests looking for a pet- and kid-friendly environment with basic amenities.

About this property

Welcome to Econo Lodge

Located in a commercial and industrial area of Thunder Bay, Econo Lodge offers a modest stay with straightforward amenities like free Wi-Fi, continental breakfast, and parking. The hotel's practical setting places it near large shopping centers and cultural attractions such as the Thunder Bay Art Gallery, known for contemporary First Nations artwork, making it convenient for visitors interested in exploring local art and history.

The property features air-conditioned rooms that are noted by guests to be clean and comfortable, with beds suitable for a good night's rest. While it does not offer extras like a pool, restaurant, or a full fitness center, it does provide a small exercise room and business center facilities. Some reviews mention the lack of microwaves and elevator access, which could be an important consideration for certain travelers.

Guest feedback reflects a mixed but generally fair impression. Many appreciate the friendly and helpful staff, cleanliness, and value for money, with rates that suit travelers looking for a basic and budget-friendly option. However, some have noted issues with neighborhood safety perceptions and an abrupt attitude from certain staff members during breakfast service. The continental breakfast, although free, is simple and sometimes replaced by grab-and-go options.

Convenience is further enhanced by proximity to Thunder Bay International Airport, roughly an 11-minute drive away. The hotel is pet- and kid-friendly but does not provide accessible facilities or airport shuttles. Overall, Econo Lodge serves best those seeking an affordable, no-frills base in Thunder Bay rather than those requiring upscale amenities or extensive onsite services.

This is one of the nicest Econos we have visited. Front staff were friendly and the room and breakfast was great. The staff who looks after the breakfast is terrible: she would huff if someone was in her way getting food and she loudly talked about the 'ton if beer cans' the tenant in room whatever has. No social graces.

You get what you pay for. Seemed a little sketchy at first but the bed was quite clean, as was the washroom. The sheets were seriously bleached or something because though soft, they "burned" my face a little and I had to put a T-shirt down. Better at that extreme than the other. Neighbourhood seemed a little worrisome but it was quiet with little foot traffic. I can't really complain though as the price was quite low and there were no other pet friendly accommodations available at the last minute.

Nice for a basic hotel. Staff friendly and helpful. Rooms have no microwaves and there is no elevator so pack light if you are on second floor. Beds were comfortable. Breakfast is a continental with no extras.

Helpful, and very friendly staff! The rooms are clean, and the beds are comfy enough to get a good nights sleep...but, (for me anyways..) Excellent rates...with the taxes and all..comes to just over $90.00 a nite! So if you just need a place to rest your head? You don't care about how 'fancy' the place is? Check them out!

Not bad for the rate. Basic small room. They say they are not doing their hot breakfast due to covid- every other hotel I’ve been to on my travels are still offering their hot breakfast- their replacement is a brown bag with a juice box, syrup fruit cup and nutrigrain bar... guess it’s better than nothing but they were still offering their coffee machine in the lobby, what is the difference between that and the other kitchen items used for breakfast?

Great staff, and room. Took the time for extras in the room (note, mints, pen to write out any comments, channel list, rag for snowy boots). Even offered me an upgrade. Breakfast was great! Juice bar, cereal, yogurt, toast/bagels, waffle station, coffee. Would gladly stay again!

3.5 stars. First the downsides: There was no microwave and my mother who has arthritis had difficulty going up the step at the side entrance, it was too high. The buttons to turn the light on didn't work, then we realized there were no lights, just a bedside lamp. The lights in the bathroom worked though. Upsides: it was cheap and had everything else I needed for an interim stay. It was clean and the beds were nice.

Got here after 7 hours of travelling on the road. Front desk was very nice and helpful. Room was very clean and comfortable. Only downside is that someone programmed the alarm clock to go off at 12:00 am and the other guests were a little loud after 11:30pm

I gave this hotel 4 stars comparing its services to its price. We paid 123 including taxes with room of two double beds. Receptionist was amazing...very friendly and helpful. Room was clean along with comfy beds/pillows. Location of this hotel is perfect near shopping mall and gas station. Boys loved tv channels...tree house. It was easy to use laundry machines for guests. They have free coffee at reception 24x7. We also found two small pieces of chocolates in the room...very sweet gesture. My only challenge is that I was located at second floor and they do not have an elevator. This is a great place to stay in when you are in Thunder Bay.

Pulled in late after a long day of driving. Were greeted by Mohit & Harsh in the lobby. They were both happy, pleasant, helpful, and professional. Got a good deal on a "recently renovated" room. We were shown the room and it was amazing. It was perfect in every way. The room had 2 extremely comfortable beds, laminate flooring, and spotless from top to bottom. Bathroom was the same. Continental breakie in the morning was also amazing, with lots of fresh options & fruit. Can't say enough positive things about Mohit, Harsh, and our experience. 5 stars all around. Kudos
